Topless Strut braced wing, Inspired by USA Made Revo by Evolution Trikes. Also known as RC Microlight, similar to Deltaplano, Deltamotor, Ultraleve models.
Check out our RC Mini Robo Trike Kit @ http://www.micro-flight.com

Although the MIA RC Trikes in general, have been inspired by much earlier real trike designs, my love for the Revo's execution to Performance Durability and Aesthetics is synonymous with MIA's own standards used in the models I create. Not close to a revo looks but time permitting I wil get there, as far as aesthetics, which is the easy part.

The really hard part, was engineering the MIA robo pilot, geometry, structure and a few other bits, but it works extremely well in terms of a more realistic method and this alone separates by far the previous weight shift "servos to sub crossbar on keel" which I had done originally in some smaller helicopters back in the 90's and in other RC models.

I decided to re-upload this video to show a bit of the runway, while doing a bit of calibration to the rudder before these very satisfying flights. Yes there is ground work involved in making a model fly really well, as in the real world of trikes, and sometimes we all experience technical difficulties, crashes and mishaps, if this did not happen how are we supposed to learn and get better at.

Things that make this particular model great:

Properly designed and manufactured wing (No flap on the wing) Sail is tighter than my other wings because the model is of a different caliber and wings are preferably not interchangeable in real trikes nor in models of a different payload and specification.

A frame with braced plates sandwiched to hold the aluminum tubing , just like many real trikes are done, there is no bending of the aluminum frame to adjust for CG, this was figured out in the geometry of the frame which coincides with real trike frames. Although if you have been watching all my Trike videos I did have a bent up aluminum frame on my 80's trike and it was bent and Milled (slotted) to remove some of the weight. An "A" frame, it is a shape that is standard on real trikes and for a more realistic model it is logical to reference to real trike design and make it similar. There are also real trikes that use regular round tubing and for models one can use just about anything that works for the specific application. I use a lot of parts which are not milled on purpose to simplify things and make things lighter than if it was, but if it hits me I will do that, just depends on how my creative juices are flowing and what type of coffee I had that day.

Servos not on the rear of the frame or to a sub crossbar ficed to the keel, but instead MIA Robotic Pilot which steers directly the control bar and directional wheel, a bit of logical thinking and many configurations tried was employed to achieve the pilot control.

MIA TUFF LG (TM) with built in suspension, why change something that works great !, it worked great in my original 2000 micro, sub-micro and palm-size helicopters, autogyros, airplanes, still does, and as can be seen in this video it does a nice job also on this model.

Oh yes there will be more videos to show some other cool stuff I am doing. By the way, would anyone feel upset if I put some vertical stabilzers on my wings? or has this been done already? like rc flying wings have for stabilization? but hold on.. don't real trikes have them too? the Revo has some really nice ones, I think I will model mine after them.

"I started with the typical ways of controlling using weight shift, but I found better ways and have not looked back since."

when I posted this a long time ago, I was referring to a few types of control, my Robo Pilot was one of them, which at the time I didn't want to disclose because I needed more time to fully test and come up with a new geometry for the control to work via the pilot with minimal mechanical complexity.

When you have a growing family and real work commitments, rc models and bragging rights go out the door! I did not have the time for a while, cause I got extremely busy with work, to post about my RC trike developments, and so this left a bit of a gap, in certain respects, however I never obsoleted my models or forms of control, nor was I dormant and so the work that I am showing is a continuation of what I started over a decade ago and what better way to come back then to make a trike a lot better than my previous ones, with a topless wing and realistic pilot control. I still fly all my models depending on the mood.
